Antique Edwardian 14K Gold Picture Pendant or Locket with Original Celluloid Picture
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer….
AGE: As late as the 1890s but probably C.1900 or so
ITEM: A rose gold locket or pendant featuring, currently, a tinted celluloid photo of a young girl (honestly, close up, it looks like a small painting)! The picture can be removed quite easily and replaced just by lifting the back tabs to the pendant, taking off the back plate and putting in something new. Note, right now there does not appear to be a plastic covering on the photo - one can easily be cut from any piece of clear plastic!
CONDITION: One tab near the top of the locket is missing but the rest are doing the trick of holding the back piece in place. Overall, this is a lovely piece that displays nicely.
METAL CONTENT: 14K Gold
HALLMARKS: 585 along with a maker's mark of two crossed axes. I do not think this piece is American made but rather European manufactured.
SIZE: From top of bale (NOT jump ring) to bottom measures 1-3/16"; width is about 1".
WEIGHT: 5 grams
FINAL COMMENTS: Just add a new ROSE GOLD chain or reconfigure into a new design!
