Vintage 18K Gold Drop Earrings from Peru - Gent with Llama Design
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer….
AGE: Best guess is C.1940/1950
ITEM: From Peru, so stated because of the Llama on the design, comes this pair of high carat gold drop earrings for pierced ears (posts). The earrings are composed of three sections - the top round with the post, the middle section with the cutwork design of a man with a Llama, and the bottom fringe. The top round and middle are slightly concave/domed.
CONDITION: Very nice though the earrings come without nuts. No doubt the original owner swapped her posts back and forth and forgot to reattach posts to this pair. Every lady has tons of nuts in her drawer - a set which should fit this combo. With regard to the fringe, while I see no breaks, etc., some of the drops are spiked while a few of the others are blunted. The drops are soldered to the main body so this is how they were purchased, no doubt about it.
METAL CONTENT: 18K Gold
HALLMARKS: None. Metal was gently acid tested for content. As a sidenote, the gold standard for Peruvian jewelry is 18K.
SIZE: From top to bottom measures just shy of 2"; width is 13/16".
WEIGHT: A combined 11.2 grams - yes, very solid and substantial earrings - not flimsy at all!
FINAL COMMENTS: A fabulous pair of South American earrings!
