C.1890 Austro-Hungarian Silver, Enamel, Pearl & Persian Turquoise Cross Pendant
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer….
AGE: C.1890 or so
ITEM: An AustroHungarian cross pendant in two sections - the main body of the cross and the ORIGINAL bale! Made of silver and covered in black enamel (with white dots) the main stone of the pendant is Persian Turquoise. Natural pearls adorn the center oval section of the pendant playing off the white of the enamel.
CONDITION: Excellent! No stones missing - color variations are just starting to show in the stones - pearls are creamy and while a couple appear to have lost a bit of nacre or have darkened, there really is nothing wrong at all! Back bale is curved to allow for a thin or thick chain. One the chain is put on, the pendant will tilt forward and will lie correctly on the neck. If worn over the bustline, everything lies straight up and down!
METAL CONTENT: Being of Austro Hungarian origin either 800 or 900 silver.
HALLMARKS: None that I can spot. It is possible the marking was on the chain that went AWOL long ago. Metal has been acid tested for content.
SIZE: From top of bale to bottom measures 2-1/2"; width is 1-3/8".
WEIGHT: 9 grams
FINAL COMMENTS: Just find the right chain and it's ready to wear (mine is for display purposes only).
