Dated 1889 French Silver & Enamel "Saint Esprit" First Communion Pendant
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer….
AGE: Engraved 1889 on the reverse.
ITEM: A pendant that would have been presented to a young lady upon her First Communion. In silver and blue enamel, the pendant is comprised of two parts. First, the bale is a Dove of Peace aka The Holy Spirit. Secondly, the bottom medal depicts the Cup of Christ (a chalice) and features the wording "Souvenir de 1re Communion: amongst the blue enamel. The back of the medal is engraved "Y de F 27 Juin 1889".
CONDITION: Fabulous with a mellow patina to the silver - it has not been polished in some time.
METAL CONTENT: Being French, either 800 or 900 Silver.
HALLMARKS: One French poincon (punchmark) on the bale of the piece indicating country of manufacture and silver content (too small to photo or read correctly).
SIZE: From top of Dove to bottom of medal measures 1-5/8"; width is 11/16".
WEIGHT: 3.6 grams
FINAL COMMENTS: A unique religious item that is becoming increasingly harder to find. And the fact that this piece can be accurately dated, is just a BONUS!
