ANTIQUE VICTORIAN Etched Sterling Silver Cross Pendant
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer….
AGE: C.1870 or so - Aesthetic period
ITEM: A hollow Victorian cross pendant with an etched floral/leafy top and a plain back.
CONDITION: Very nice with a very mellow patina to the silver. I believe, though I am not sure, that the piece did not start life as a pendant - rather, I think someone turned the piece into a pendant. The bale at the top has been applied with an extra portion of silver while the bottom air hole (indicating a hollow manufacture) has been plugged with a silver button. All this, of course, is not visible from the front.
METAL CONTENT: Sterling Silver
HALLMARKS: None, as is the norm with early American Victorian pieces. Metal has been acid tested for content.
SIZE: 2-3/8" x 1-9/16" (not including the bale or jump ring).
WEIGHT: 7.7 grams
FINAL COMMENTS: Just needs the right chain to show it off - mine is for display purposes only.
