Signed A. Gasper Sterling Silver & Stone Inlay "Sunface" Squash Blossom Necklace & Earrings
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer….
AGE: C.1960 or so
ITEM: Made of silver beads & findings and featuring a Zuni Sunface design (medals inlaid with white mother of pearl, red coral, turquoise and black onyx), this vintage squash blossom necklace comes complete with a pair of clipback earrings featuring the same sun face design. Closure of the necklace is a simple hook and eye.
CONDITION: Very nice though the silver has tarnished - a polish is certainly in order. The necklace is "twisty turn-y" but once laid flat on a chest, it stays the way it was meant to sit.
METAL CONTENT: Sterling Silver
HALLMARKS: The main pendant of the necklace is marked A. Gasper (Ashbarry Gasper). The earrings are on a card marked STERLING SILVER.
SIZE: Necklace length is about 25-1/2". Each medallion to the necklace measures 15/16" high/wide as do the fronts to the earrings. Bottom medallion to the necklace measures 2-1/8" high x 1-7/8" wide.
WEIGHT: Necklace weighs 2.9 ounces. Earrings, on the card, weigh 8.2 grams.
FINAL COMMENTS: Flipping through Internet pages I see that there are currently 2 Gasper necklaces for sale. Both necklaces are in the "over $1,000" asking range - that's WITHOUT the earrings. Apparently the design of this necklace was a popular one by Gasper. Well, here's a chance to own a piece with a slightly lower asking price (and I'll still dicker a bit).
