Vintage STERLING SILVER Grape Shears/Scissors by Wallace or Mount Vernon
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer for your consideration....
AGE: C.1939 or so
ITEM: A pair of fruit shears or scissors featuring a grape motif all over the handle. White the handle is silver, the shears appear to be stainless steel. The shears are marked with the prior owner's E.W. initials on the handle. Hmm, Edith Wharton perhaps??????
CONDITION: Excellent with no dents or dings anywhere.
METAL CONTENT: Sterling Silver
HALLMARKS: RW STERLING as well as carved in marks on the shears - 1939-8. It's possible the 1939 represents the year they were made or, it is possibly a style number. I'll stick with age. The RW hallmark was used by Wallace Silversmiths, but also the Mount Vernon Company Silversmiths. Since only these 2 initials, overlaid upon each other, shows, I cannot say for certain who the maker is.
SIZE: Length is 7-1/3"; width is 3-9/16"
WEIGHT: 3.7 ounces
FINAL COMMENTS: Astonishingly beautiful pair of shears that cut perfectly. I doubt they were used they seem so sharp.
