This gorgeous old dish is by David-Andersen of Oslo, Norway. Made of sterling silver with a gold vermeil wash, it is finished on the inside with vitreous glass (kiln-fired) enamel in a lovely shade of aqua blue. The translucent enamel is applied over a finely textured wavy guilloche surface, accentuated around the rim with a band of basse-taille rose blossoms.
Measuring 2 1/4" diameter, this dainty little tray is in excellent condition, with just normal shelf wear on the bottom. The enamel is perfect. The piece is clearly marked "925S Made in Norway" along with the early David-Andersen maker's mark of silversmith tools. The dish may have been originally designed as an open salt cellar or as a pin tray for an elegant lady's vanity.
