This bold, mid-century modernist brooch is by noted studio artist Birger Haglund of Sweden. Made of sterling silver, it is in an abstract form reminiscent of stylized leaves. It is a wonderful example of Scandinavian modernism.
Measuring 2 11/16" by 1 11/16", the piece is in excellent condition. The back has a rollover safety clasp and is signed "Haglund 925S Sterling Sweden" along with the initials "MIC," triple crown national mark, silver standard "S", and the date number "D9" for 1954. It also bears the emblem for Stockholm, St. Erik's head. Haglund worked for Atelier Borgila before opening his own studio.
