This striking vintage dish is by O.F. Hjortdahl of Norway. Made of sterling silver, it features a wonderful design on the inside bottom, depicting a horseback gentleman in traditional Norwegian bunad costume, with a modernist twist. The image has crisp lines, and is finished with vitreous glass (kiln-fired) enamel in vibrant shades of cobalt blue, black, red, brown, and white.
Measuring 2 3/4" in diameter, the piece is in excellent condition with no damage. The bottom is marked "925S" along with the Hjortdahl flower.
The jewelry workshop established by Olav Fritjof Hjortdahl in Oslo was active from 1914 until 1970. This piece dates to the 1950s or 1960s.
