Some Arts and Crafts movement inspiration is present in the style of this Sterling Silver Belt Buckle, with a hammered look to the surface. Oval center cartouche suitable for engraving. This still has a store paper tag on it, illegible, so I think it has never been worn. It has some surface scuffs from sitting in a store and in storage for nearly a century. There are a few smudges on the cartouche, but I believe they would come out with a light buffing.
It measures about 1 5/8 inch in length, a width of 1 1/8 inch. It looks like it would accommodate a belt of 3/4 inch to 7/8 inch. Unique sliding catch mechanism. The piece is marked 'Sterling' and EIF & Co, for E. I. Franklin. E. I. Franklin manufactured silver items in North Attleboro, MA from 1915 until about 1934. The piece weight 12 grams.
