This figurine depicts an officer of the Infantry of the Line, from the time of Napoleon's invasion of Russia. The Line Infantry was “the sinew of the army”, according to Napoleon. Approximately 8 ¼ inches in height.
The original was made and designed by Gerhard Bochmann, one of Goebel's best known designers and sculptors. Excellent detail and hand-painting. Excellent condition, with no defect of any sort.
Marked with the Goebel V-Bee mark of the time, and 'by W. Goebel W. Germany'. ''1968' and 'LF9' are impressed into the bottom of the base, and the Bochmann name is impressed on the top of the base, which measures approximately 3 inches x 3 inches. The base is lettered 'Officer de l'Infanterie de Ligne 1812'.
This is one of 8 figurines which I am offering from this series, and all are shown in my final photo.
