Rare Antique Steiff 8" Peter Rabbit in Homemade Jacket, with rust spot on left ear where button was. These rabbits were only made for the British market and are hard to find today. Peter measures 8" long or 20 cm, without ears. Made by Steiff c 1904, Peter is made up in airbrushed velveteen, has kapok stuffing and shoe-button eyes backed with red felt. He still retains his pink stitched nose/mouth pout. Peter has much wear from loving, old darns, and metal protruding from left foot. He wears his old navy wool homemade jacket with paisley embroidery. Rather shy about being photographed, Peter is shown with his rabbit friend from the warren that is more brown and not included. It is said Margery Williams, author of "The Velveteen Rabbit" modeled her rabbit after a Steiff Peter, the ultimate story of "loved" toys becoming real. Don't miss this rare Steiff Peter Rabbit !
