Wonderful antique primitive hand carved butter press stamp mold measuring 3-5/8" wide by 3-1/4" tall. Made from a single piece of wood, it is complete with knob style handle - press has a lovely stylized Pennsylvania Dutch floral design - carved with beautiful, deep leaves, and a notched edge.
Condition is good with chipping to the edge from use - wood is dark and surprisingly lightweight from drying out with age - carving marks can be clearly seen, and handle end has an incised maker's mark as shown - a few old drips of dark paint do not detract. This was in my Grandmother's basement cellar - she lived in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and came from Baden Baden, Germany - I haven't a clue about the history of the piece, but am assuming it dates to her lifetime of around the turn of last century - it is signed by the dot of blue paint - can't quite make it out. A wonderful primitive and a nice addition to any butter press collection or display!
