Antique Victorian primitive Americana painted oval wood spelling board measuring about 13-1/2" wide by 9" deep. Featuring charming capital letters printed on round, red wood buttons, these are channel set and slide around the board to assist in learning to spell. Bearing a patent date of FEB. 16 '86, back retains the original price tag of .75 cents! It is also marked in pencil on the back with one of the owner's name of CLARENCE J. WINCOTT 1914 - guessing this was passed down through several generations of children.
Condition is primitive and wonderfully worn with faded paint, rubbing, several letter chips and even some shrinkage to the paint on the angled edges - none of this detracts. This is a handsome antique spelling board - perfect displayed with primitive toys, games, etc. Lovely addition to any collection!
