This is an early chatelaine waist hook from France. The bigorne mark was used from used 1818 - 1838. This mark will appear on the opposite side from the Minerva silver stamp because it was impressed at the same time as the silver mark. Please refer to the photo that shows the insects to see the bigorne mark.
A hand engraved design is present on the front of the clip and from that, a substantial infinity shaped hook hangs. The hook allows for a small purse, chatelaine implements or a ring of keys. The clip is meant to drape over a waistband or a belt.
Marked with Minerva 2 for silver, bigorne (used 1818 - 1838), maker's mark, measures 2-3/4" by 1/2". Excellent condition.
