Queen Louise of Prussia was known for her beauty which was masterfully captured in the 1879 painting of her by Gustav Carl Ludwig Richter. Queen Louise is descending a staircase wearing a lovely, flowing gown and an ermine fur trimmed cape. Although this likeness was not created during her lifetime (1776-1810), it became a well known work of art. So much so, a close up of the Queen's image from this painting has been used on brooches and other porcelain wares. This pin is a wonderful example.
A lovely circa 1890-1900s porcelain pin. Using a transfer as an outline, the image is hand painted so each one is unique and differs in quality of painting. You can see elements of the transfer as well as the hand applied paint. This pin is a well done likeness of Richter's 1879 painting. Curls of the Queen's chestnut colored hair frame her beautiful face. Ermine fur is draping from her shoulder and is paired with a lovely sage green gown.
Unsigned, this is a large pin measuring 2-3/4" x 2-1/4".. Some discoloration to frame, please see photograph. Otherwise in excellent condition.
