Lucknow c 1750
This is an early Indian miniature painting depicting three women praying a temple to Shiva. There are offering vessels in front of them along with a small sack that is tied around the neck. The women are all dressed in simple garb. There is a lingam in the temple which is located under a tree. It is a full moon and the sky is shown as overcast. In the distance we see two other women talking.
The painting is laid down on card paper. On the back is page of calligraphy.
