This is an exceptional rosewood and parquetry inlaid jewelry box made c 1880 in the United States. It has very ornate geometric banded decorations throughout and has a fitted interior. There are raised panels with a symbol of some kind inlaid on the top, the front and the sides of the box. The interior of the box contains a 3 compartment lift out tray. The box sits on splayed ogee feet.
The box measures 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 4 inches. There are areas of loss as can be seen in the pictures. Overall the box is an excellent example of the inlay workmanship and it's delicate proportions give it a form that is aesthetically very pleasing.
