This is a fabulous antique Victorian mourning locket that has an enamel front and a removable glazed back panel. The front has four sections of black enamel and a floral design on the rest of the locket. There are full blown roses and forget me nots. I believe the full roses depict the end of life and forget me nots are just as the name suggests. The back is lined with black velvet under the glass panel. The outer rim of the locket has added rings alternating with three tiny balls one balanced on top of two. This is in very good antique condition with just one black panel that has a scratch and one tiny ball a little crushed. These can be seen in the photos but photos are highly magnified to show detail and barely noticeable in real life. The rim is marked with a makers mark but it is partially covered by the end decorations, it is also marked 9ct. It measures approx. 2.8cm or 1 1/8" and weighs 6.5g. This is a beautiful locket with hand painted enamel so there cannot be another exactly the same and worthy of a place in any collection.
