Kenneth Jay Lane - Vintage K.J.L. Early Signature Mark 1960's - 70's Faux Coral Cabochon Maltese Style Pin.
Coral color jewelry is always perfect to wear spring and summer especially if it is early Kenneth Jay Lane K.J.L. with periods between his initials dating to his earliest 1960's and 70's designs. Famous for his symmetrical Maltese style large pins, this pin is beautiful to wear. The overall shape of the pin is oval measuring 2-1/2" high by 2-1/4" across, the pin has a profile of just under 3/4" high at the center cabochon dome. The pin is also a hefty 51.9 grams. His early signature K.J.L. oval cartouche is placed along the center rim, the swivel clasp works smoothly.
It has the classic north-south, east-west Maltese design with eight prong set oval cabochons measuring 3/4" high surrounding a large center oval cabochon measuring 1" high, also prong set. A delicate trefoil rhinestone design of clear rhinestones set in an antique gold tone metal finish is placed along the outer rim between each of the eight cabochons. Surrounding the large center cabochon are eight quatrefoils with clear rhinestones in the same antique gold tone metal finish. The design of the rhinestones in the gold tone stylized settings gives the pin the look of Renaissance jewelry. Kenneth Lane is famous for his jewelry designs inspired by many different periods and cultures, from China to Ancient Greece and Renaissance to Art Deco.
For 50 years I have been collecting his bold jewelry and am always amazed by his creativity.
