Dichroic Glass was originally created for the space and laser industries, and was developed extensively by NASA. The word dichroic means "two colors" because of the two or more colors that the glass reflects and transmits. The glass is made with metallic oxides, mainly copper, silver and gold, and has properties of all of them.
The dichroic glass ring is 30 mm square, bezel set in a sterling silver frame. It is a size 8 3/4. The bezel around the stone is 1/4 inch thick, as is the band it is set in. Very bright green, yellow, teal, orange, and black are the colors set horizontally. The 25 x 18 mm ovals in the earrings match the light green color in the ring, perfectly. There is a bright green, round 8 mm crystal at the top, making the earrings a total of 35 mm (1 1/2") in length. Both are set in frames of sterling silver with sterling ear wires for pierced ears. Dichroic - (of a crystal) showing different colors when viewed from different directions, or (more generally) having different absorption coefficients for light polarized in different directions.
