This item is a stunning 1940's "IRIS LANE" enamel compact long necklace. It is a sterling silver rose colored guilloche enamel compact. The compact is decorated with silhouette figures on both sides of the compact. On the front of the compact there is the silhouette of a Victorian Style female figure with a parrot on a circular stand. The back of the compact shows the silhouette of a dog with a parrot figure in a decorative stand.
The enamel compact is on a long necklace of silver link chain. This chain is attached to the compact with a decorative pink quartz ornament. When you open the compact you see a mirror on the top of the lid and there is a pink Houpalix powder puff inside. The mirror shows age fogginess and the Houpalix powder puff is intact but is fragile in condition. The long silver chain necklace measures about 30". (A 15" drop on each side) The circumference of the compact measures about 1 3/4 " across. There is the original "IRIS LANE" tag. One side of the tag reads in typed print "One of a Kind - Iris Lane" and the other side is handwritten with #C42/Deco enamel on Sterling Silver/American 1940's. The inside of the compact is marked with the silver mark of 925SG. (?) I cannot make out what the mark is following the G.
This item has been in a private jewelry collection. I think it is in excellent condition for the age. The compact hinge works well. It opens and closes as it should. The necklace clasp works well and is attached in good condition to the compact. There is some aging, of course, but it is a very beautiful and unique piece for any collection.
