This adorable little pendant was a spur of the moment creation utilizing some sterling Silver square wire to frame the heart that remained from another project and a beautiful Smooth Ametrine briolette that I had acquired over 7 years ago, which finally 'spoke to me' as to how it should be featured in my designs.
The Filigree in this piece is made from Fine Silver which has a 99.9 percent pure silver content. The piece is then depletion gilded to bring up the pure silver and create the white finish on the Filigree.
The neck chain is woven from a continuous piece of sterling silver in a technique referred to as Viking Knitting or Trichinopoly. Fragments of this sort of chain were found at Viking dig sites from ancient times and the technique has been carried down to modern times. Other ancient societies had also perfected this technique for chain making as well.
I often use commercially made chains to compliment my designs but of late I have decided that I wanted to also hand make the chins that accompany my designs. The neck chain is completely hand fabricated and then pulled through a draw plate to fully shape the chain to its final length measuring 18 inches.
This is a great piece for both young and mature women alike and makes a lovely and elegant statement.
