This ca. 1920s ring is made of black celluloid and has a hand painted white border surrounding the image. The image is behind clear celluloid. These are most often referred to as mourning jewelry as the image is usually one of a loved one who has passed. This is a very unusual photo as it looks more like a performing personality than anything else. In his checkered short with straw looking hat and big smile with a bit of lipstick it more likely a carnival or vaudeville performer. A souvenir of a visit to one or the other. Great image and very clear. Definitely a unique and uncommon image.
The ring is a size 6. The condition is excellent with no damage at all. Sturdy, strong, and not scratched.
From the collection of Corky Davidoff author of "The Bakelite Jewelry Book".
