Maxwell Chayat is one of the well-documented 50's Modernists. He is known for both his jewelry and his religious ritual objects. This is a Moderne Torah pointer. It has overlapping planes at one end. The pointer is marked sterling and we did not test the rest of the object. The pointer measures 11 1/2" end to end X 1 3/4" at its widest. The chain and loop measure about 10"L. The object weighs over 105 grams. It needs a gentle polishing and cleaning. It is marked CHAYAT. Maxwell Chayat's work can be found in the Smithsonian, Cooper Union, the Jewish Museum of NY and the Newark Museum. An exciting collection piece and unbelievable object for a Synagogue.
