These six vintage brass and metal African barbeque skewers were brought back from Africa by the previous owners. They told me when I purchased the skewers from them that they had bought them in Africa during the 1960s when they did a lot of traveling. The skewers are very unique and wonderful. It was explained to me that the figures were first made from a type of wax and then clay was put around the wax and fired to make a mold. The wax melted away and you were left with a mold to use for the brass. The mold was broken after the brass cooled so each figure is unique. I had another six of these that I sold several years ago. The figures were similar but not exactly the same, some were different poses. Other than those and these I've never seen anything like these before. These African skewers are Folk Art at its best! They vary in overall length (as can be seen in the photos) with the shortest measuring approx 16&1/4" and the longest being approx 17&3/4". The brass figures all measure approx 3" to 3&1/2" in length.
