The richness of this amethyst's color! Must be Siberian. Back in the day, amethysts were somewhat of a regal thing...I wouldn't be surprised if this piece had a story. Too bad we don't know what it is. It dates to about 1890.
The amethyst measures an impressive 23mm x 17mm x 12mm, and weighs approximately 23 carats. It is celebrated by a border of seed pearls, and set in 14K yellow gold. It shows no damage...any bits of white you see in the picture are either reflections or fuzz from the polishing cloth.
It can be worn as a pin or a pendant (note the post-1920 clasp, pin, and hinge on the back; it must have been added at some point. You can see where it was soldered).
A spectacular piece!
