A Victorian fan with a hand colored lithographic mourning scene, circa 1850. This could be a scene from a play, possibly a Shakespeare play. It's a pretty rare subject matter for a fan. The sticks are pierced and carved horn, dyed to look like tortoise. The double paper leaf is in good condition as are the sticks. There is one small repair to one of the inner sticks. The guardstick is 11" long and the fan is guaranteed to be as described.
