A superb gilt silver and enameled snuff box, dating from the second half of the 18th century. Painted with a cherub catching butterflies, in polychrome enamels on a silver ground. The box has three hallmarks, two on the bottom and one on the lid. They are incredibly tiny, which is typical of French hallmarks, too small to read, even with a loupe. The box is 1 3/4" across at the bottom by 1" high. In very god condition. There is something along one edge and I can't tell if it's on top or under the silver enamel. Please view the close-up. Guaranteed to be as described.
