A mid-19th century portrait miniature, watercolor on paper, circa 1850. The portrait, of a young woman, is set into an oval locket type frame/case. The case is covered in blue velvet which has worn off quite a bit. It opens and closes (snaps shut) fine though. The portrait has some 'foxing' on the paper, due to the paper acidity I assume. The painting is well executed, definitely a skilled artist though the foxing on the paper makes the subject a bit more homely than she was in real life. The piece is 2" by 2 1/2" and is guaranteed to be as described.
