Govert van Emmerik was born in Dordrecht, Holland in 1808. Van Emmerik was a student of P. Hofman and P.J. Schotel. He is most well-known as a painter of sea and river views with tall ships as the center of each work. In 1852, he left for Hamburg where he spent the rest of his life. You will find his works exhibited in The Hague, Museum Dordrecht, and the National Historical Marine Museum in Amsterdam. Govert van Emmerik died in Hamburg, Germany in 1882.
