Antique English quarter hour chiming bracket clock by Clerke, 1 Royal Exchange, London, circa 1880. This clock has marquetry inlay and an engraved silver and brass dial with ormolu mounts. Comes with one year warranty.
Frederick William Clerke was born in Islington, Middlesex, England in April of 1820. The earliest records show Clerke as a watchmaker in 1851 in Islington. Clerke had employed eight men and had lived and worked in Islington until 1871, when he moved to London and ran a chronometer and watchmaking business until his death in 1885. His son Frederick James Clerke took over the business after his death.
