This lovely piece of American Brilliant Cut Glass has both elegance and substance. The graceful stem is cut into six sides; the edges are notched. There is a long teardrop in the center. The bowl is deeper than most comports; this may have been made as a chalice. The bowl features a row of hobstars, above deep vertical lines. The fluted bottom of the bowl looks like a flower when you look down from above. The base is cut into a 36 point star. We have found no marks and have not identified the maker.
SIZE: Height is 10 inches. Diameter at the top is 6 1/8 inches, and at the base is about 5 inches.
CONDITION: Condition is very good to excellent. There are the usual tiny nicks along some of the edges, but overall this piece is free of chips.
It’s a lovely example of early American cut glass, well worth adding to a collection or displaying on its own.
