This is a beautiful wine carafe made by one of the American Brilliant Cut Glass companies of the late 1800s or very early 1900s. The base is heavy and clear. The patterns include four lively pinwheels with center stars, deeply cut hatched bars between the pinwheels and little fans above the bars. The neck is fluted with notches running up each of the eight edges. The base is cut into a 24 point star. This piece is unmarked and we have not identified the maker.
SIZE: Height is 8 inches. Diameter at its widest section is about 6 inches. Diameter at the base is about 3 1/2 inches and at the top rim is 2 3/4 inches.
CONDITION: Overall the condition is very good. There are a few tiny nicks along some of the edges, but no significant chips. There are faint lines inside the neck indicating liquid having sat in it; possibly it was used as a vase at some point.
