This is a spectacular vase, both in size and in beauty of design and cut. The pattern is divided into three panels on the top half, and three panels as well on the lower half. Each panel features engraved flowers and foliage. The flowers look like roses, but the foliage does not, so it may be another type of flower. The panels are divided on four sides with rows of cane pattern, with squares of fine diamond cuts where the cane rows meet. The bottoms of the columns of cane and diamonds are cut into fans – a large one opening to the bottom, and two smaller ones on each side opening at the top. Deep miter cuts divide the flower panels and geometric rows. The top rim is crenelated, and the base is cut into a simple star. We have not found a mark and have not yet been able to identify the maker, but this is a beautifully cut piece of American Brilliant Cut Glass.
This comes from the estate of Phil’s mom, who was a passionate collector of American Brilliant cut glass and other fine art glass.
SIZE: Height is 9 3/4”. Diameter at the base is 4 1/8”, while diameter at the top rim is 4”.
CONDITION: There are a few small, shallow chips on the top rim. There is a scratch (about 10mm) on the top just under the rim on one side. The base has some rubbing. There may be a few tiny nicks here and there, but we don’t see anything else worth noting. Overall the vase is in very nice condition, and really is gorgeous!
