This is a spectacular and unusual piece of American Brilliant Cut Glass. It is divided into four sections and has two handles, making it perfect for holding small hors-d-oeuvres or possibly relishes or candies. The main pattern is one large hobstar, with points ending in fans. Smaller hobstars and diamond cuts fill many of the areas inside the star. There are hobstars around the rim, in between the main star points. The rim is scalloped and the handles have a cut and polished top and a complicated pattern of notches cut around the outside. The cuts are all deep and precise. We can find no maker’s mark and have not been able to identify it. It is a very beautiful piece!
This comes from the estate of Phil’s mom, who was a passionate collector of American Brilliant cut glass and other fine art glass.
SIZE: Diameter of the dish at the top is 9”. From handle to handle measurement is just over 12”. The dish is 2” high, and 3” at the handle.
CONDITION: Overall this dish is in very good condition. We see no chips on the main part of the bowl. There are a few tiny rough spots on the points of the rim. There are also small nicks on the high points of both handles, indicating that the dish was probably jostled against other dishes over its lifetime.
