Simple, elegant, pristine are three words that describe this master salt well. It has a gondola shape atop a lovely diamond shaped cut foot. The dish is cut in a diamond pattern, with two “steps” cut horizontally below. The top part of the dish is cut into shallow flutes. The top rim is cut and polished smooth. A star is cut into the base and the bottom edges of the base are beveled. We have not found a signature on this pretty piece.
This comes from the estate of Phil’s mom, who was a passionate collector of American Brilliant cut glass and other fine art glass.
SIZE: The base measures 3 1/4” by 2 1/8”. The top measures (from outside edge to outside edge) 3 3/4” by 2 1/8”. It is 3 5/8” high at the high ends.
CONDITION: This salt is in excellent, near perfect condition. It is possible that a tiny chip was ground out at the top corner of one end of the base – or it may also be that when the beveling was done, it was done a little differently on one end. There are a few small, fine scratches on the base. Otherwise, there are no chips, cracks or scratches.
