Rosenthal artist Karl Himmelstoss really captured the graceful beauty of this penguin. You can just imagine it sliding down an icy slope into the sea. Right now it seems to be standing at attention, listening for the cry of its young. This piece was designed in 1914; this particular model was made after 1957. The number 361 is impressed in the base above the under-glaze mark. Below 361 is the number 5. The initials K H are impressed on the top of the base next to the penguin’s tail. The molding and hand painting on this piece are exquisite and very life like.
This piece comes from the estate of Phil’s mother. She was mainly a collector of glass, but also had an extensive collection of animal figurines that were purchased over many years.
SIZE: The base measures 2 7/8” by 2 ½”. The penguin is 5 7/8” tall.
CONDITION: This figurine is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, scratches or crazing.
