Although small, this wonderful penguin has great personality. Designed by Karl Himmelstoss in 1914, this piece was made after 1957. He looks like a young one to us, leaning forward as if searching for a parent. His wings are partially open. Does he think he can fly? The painting on this little guy is beautifully done to create a very life-like appearance. The number 398 and “F HIMMELSTOSS” are impressed into the base around the under-glaze mark.
This piece comes from the estate of Phil’s mother. She was mainly a collector of glass, but also had an extensive collection of animal figurines that were purchased over many years.
SIZE: The base has a diameter of about 1 5/8”, and height is 2 7/8”.
CONDTION: The condition of this piece is excellent, with no chips, cracks, scratches or crazing.
