This glistening pale blue druzy, cut and polished by Juvy Andres of JC Cabochons, made me think of winter, of frost, ice, snow and those early quiet nights. I hoped to create that image and feeling with my design.
I cut the bezel out of thick sterling (22 gauge) and then textured it to give the feeling of ice. I cut the shape of the back plate thinking about icicles melting just a bit in the warmer afternoon, getting ready to freeze up again as soon as night falls. The varied sized fine silver balls could be snow falling against the darkening sky, or drips of ice that freeze even as they fall. The back plate is antiqued to add contrast to the balls and bezel.
The bail is an integral part of the pendant, rather than being riveted on. I designed it as an offset loop.
The chain is Viking Knit, made of fine sterling silver wire which I antiqued slightly. The clasps and end caps are also handmade of sterling silver. I added two pale blue chalcedony beads next to the clasp.
MATERIALS: Blue Lace Agate drusy, chalcedony, sterling silver, fine silver
SIZE: This necklace is 16", allowing the pendant to be worn high to hang just at the collar bone. I am happy to add an extender chain if the option of extra length is desired. Please let me know in the notes when you purchase if you would like that added. The pendant hangs about 2 1/8" and is about 1" wide. The druzy cabochon measures 30x17mm.
PROPERTIES OF STONES: This druzy is on an agate (Blue Lace agate). Agate strengthens the body and mind. It promotes courage, and facilitates the ability to discern truth.
