This necklace is handcrafted of sterling silver. The majestic amethyst, cut and polished by lapidary artist Clint Gardner, is the centerpiece of this necklace. The patterns in the stone and the colors - white, violet and deep purple - made me think of our purple mountain’s majesty. I designed the sterling silver setting to accentuate that idea and to really showcase the stone.
Silver mountain range shapes are soldered onto the silver background, which I antiqued slightly to give contrast. The bail also has gentle hills cut along the outside. I created the chain with a combination of sterling silver chain and wrapped faceted amethyst beads. When hanging, a small dark purple amethyst nestles in the middle of the bail. The hook clasp is handmade.
If desired, this pendant can be sold with a plain silver chain instead of the beaded chain. Please include a note if this is desired, and wait to pay until you hear back from us.
MATERIALS: Sterling Silver, Amethyst
SIZE: This necklace is just over 16”, allowing the pendant to be worn just below the neck. If a longer chain is desired – or an extension chain – please let us know when purchasing.
PROPERTIES OF STONES: Amethyst is considered to provide calm, balance, patience and peace. An interesting property of amethyst, going back to ancient Roman times, is that it prevents drunkenness. In fact, the name comes from the Greek word "amethystus", meaning not drunken.
This is an original piece of jewelry designed and handcrafted by Barbara Kay Bureker.
