This inkwell was designed for the traveler who may be bouncing in a carriage, swaying on a ship or having luggage thrown around by porters. Its two lids, one of which is spring loaded, keeps ink from spilling no matter what. It is covered in a red leather-like material (most likely faux leather). The first lid opens by pushing on a hidden button in the front of the inkwell. The second lid opens by pushing down on the clasp. This lid is hollow, with a spring that is covered with cork – and at one time was also likely covered with leather. The ink bottle inside is glass. When the lid is closed, the spring and cork fit tightly over the bottle.
SIZE: Diameter is just under 2 inches. Height is 1 1/4 inches.
CONDITION: The condition of this little traveler is very good. There are a few small wear spots on the covering. The hinge is strong and both lid mechanisms work well. The inside lid is missing its leather covering but the spring and cork remain, and close tightly. The bottle is in good condition with a few ink spots.
