This pretty inkwell was made in the late 1800s or very early 1900s. It is solid porcelain (or possibly ceramic) with an integral well so an insert is not needed. The decoration features hand painted pink flowers with green foliage. Gold is liberally used as trim on both flowers and leaves. The collar and hinge are bronze or possibly brass. This inkwell was used; the well is heavily stained with blue ink. We have chosen not to clean inside as many collectors enjoy the signs of use. The base is unmarked.
SIZE: The inkwell is 2 inches square, and about 2 1/2 inches high.
CONDITION: Condition is very good. The inside well and metal rim are ink stained. There is a short surface crack on one shoulder in the back which is visible due to ink staining it; this does not at all affect the structural integrity of the inkwell. The hinge is in good shape and the lid fits nicely down on the bottom rim.
