This solid glass inkwell was hand blown, cut and polished beautifully into a fluid swirling pattern. The hinged brass lid has a swirl pattern that mimics the glass, and that brings the swirl together in the center (or begins it there). The pontil is cut and polished. The glass insert is one we have added; it is a bit loose but is a type that may have been used originally. This inkwell could also have been used without an insert, although ink would certainly change the beautiful watery look of this glass.
This inkwell has been attributed to Baccarat, although there is no signature. It was made in the early 1900s.
SIZE: This inkwell measures about 3 1/4 inches high. Diameter at the base is just over 2 3/4 inches. It weighs almost 1 1/2 pounds.
CONDITION: There are a few tiny bruises here and there, mainly visible through magnification. There are no chips or cracks in the glass. The brass lid has no dents or cracks. The lid closes very tightly, making it a little difficult to open.
