This inkwell was made in the 1920s by the German Aerozon company. Aerozon was most known for their perfume lamps, but they did branch out in a few other directions. This inkwell is especially interesting because of the lid, which is glass that has been carved from the back to create an intaglio. The image is an elephant with howdah and driver. The inkwell itself is decorated with Asian figures busy with various tasks. One image is repeated twice. These images are created using a type of transfer. The base is stamped: Original Aerozon Germany. The inkwell was molded to include a pen holder.
We’ve added a replacement glass insert as it came to us without one.
SIZE: Diameter at the base is about 4 inches. The inkwell is about 2 1/2 inches high.
CONDITION: Condition is excellent. There is one spot where a bit of transfer is missing. Otherwise any spots you see are glare on the glossy porcelain.
