This is an elegant glass inkwell with sterling lid. Hallmarks on the collar indicate it was made in Birmingham in 1912; hallmarks include the sterling silver mark. The maker’s mark is difficult to make out. It is cut to include a pen rest in front. A holder for cards, or possibly a perpetual calendar is attached to the back of the collar.
SIZE: The base measures 2 5/8 inches wide by 2 5/8 inches deep. Height to the top of the lid is 1 3/8 inches, and to the top of the card holder is 2 1/8 inches.
CONDITION: There is a chip (5x2mm) on the left edge of the pen holder and three small chips around the edge of the base (not visible when the inkwell is standing). Otherwise, the glass is in good condition. The lid is in excellent condition; the hinge is strong. The card holder is a bit rippled in places but there are no cracks or dents in the metal.
