This cheerful porcelain inkstand was made around the turn of the last century by the French pottery and porcelain maker, Aladin. It is in a hexagonal shape, with an attached tray. The lid lifts off; the insert is removable. We believe the insert is original as it fits perfectly. The background glaze on this inkstand is a glorious and happy yellow. Hand painted on the front is a bird with colorful feathers. It stands on a hill or clump of green, and is surrounded by large pink and blue flowers. The lid is also decorated with a flower. The top of the inkstand has two holes for pens. The unglazed base is marked “Made in France, Aladin France”.
SIZE: 7 3/4” wide, 4 1/2” deep and about 3 1/8” high.
CONDITION: This inkstand is in excellent condition. There are no chips or cracks. The painted decoration is vibrant and completely intact. The gold around the edge of the tray has softened with handling and age, but is close to 100% intact.
This is a wonderful inkwell that I have enjoyed in my personal collection for many years, but it is now time for me to downsize and that is to your benefit. This beauty will add sparkle and joy to any inkwell collection.
