Here is an opportunity to buy a metal top in unused condition. There are two labels on the top: “P & S Products” and “Idle Hour Toy”. Oh, and “Made in U.S.A.” is there too. We couldn’t find any information on this company in any of our toy books or on the Internet. What we can tell you, is that very few metal tops were made in America. Most tops came from Japan, with a few from Europe. That’s excluding the wooden tops of companies like Duncan, which had tops contests. But this isn’t that kind of top.
Check out the lithography. Is that a P-51 fighter? How ‘bout a B-17 bomber? Is that not an M-10000 train? Looks like an Indy race car. These images can give a good estimate on the age of the top, along with the colors: early 50s, late 40s.
Size: 4 inches in diameter; 3 ½ inches tall at the spindle
Condition: This came in a box of other loose toys, so there are some marks on the edges and on the bottom. Undoubtedly, we were the first to spin the top. The string had never been used. We tried it out just enough to make sure it whistled.
This is a neat toy to play with when you have an idle hour.
