These fun little motto ware inkwells from the early part of the 1900s are hard to find, and even harder to find with a lid. This one is decorated with a scandy pattern and the motto: “Dinna be aye ettlin, But juist tak an write.” It is marked on the base with the number 144N1, and words which we are not able to decipher. The lid lifts on and off loosely and is decorated with stripes of blue and brown, which match the decoration and letters on the inkwell.
SIZE: The inkwell measures about 2 5/8 inches tall to the top of the lid finial. Diameter at the base is 2 1/2 inches.
CONDITION: There is overall glaze crazing, which is typical with this old pottery. There are no chips or cracks.
